Psalm 23 on 11.20.11

“Taste and see that the Lord is good…”

This weekend we concluded our series Awake My Soul as we studied different Psalms over the last few months. It’s been a great journey especially for those of us who were receiving the Psalm devotional emails (if you’d like to sign up for our current Advent devotional emails click HERE).

We ended the series by taking a look at Psalm 34. This is such a rich Psalm but perhaps the most well-known phrase from this Psalm is found in verse 8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” This past weekend we did just that. We experienced baptism together in the service and at the end of the service, as one church we packed holiday meals to be distributed during Thanksgiving and Christmas. What an incredible picture of the church. 182 people were baptized and 12,000 meals were packed. Can you believe that? That’s worth writing again…in all caps –

182 PEOPLE WERE BAPTIZED AND 12,000 MEALS WERE PACKED!!!

When people are baptized, we often use the phrase “going public with one’s faith”. That led me to think, in what ways do we “go public with our faith”? And once we initially “go public with our faith”, shouldn’t we always be public with our faith? That’s why I loved this service. There were 182 baptisms of people going public with their faith for the first time, meanwhile there were 12,000 other examples of people going public with their faith.

Going public with our faith should be a constant occurrence. It can look different at different times and it can look different for different people. It could be as simple as lending a hand to a neighbor; praying and crying with a friend going through a difficult time; sharing biblical wisdom with a coworker; modeling Christ-like behavior for your kids; inviting someone to church or to our upcoming Christmas services with you. Think about your day today…and the week ahead. What ways can you go public with your faith?

In so doing we can help others “taste and see that the Lord is good…”

Peace,
Matt

One Response to “Psalm 23 on 11.20.11”

  1. Our bible study group watched your Psalm 23 video and would like to use more of them (different Psalm CDs) for our bible study. Are these Psalm CD messages available for purchase on CD? How many CDs are there there? Thanks Stan
