God Loves ALL His Children on 1.19.11

Last weekend, we did a deep dive into the LOVE of God.  As Christians, God’s Love is central to our faith – the fuel of our relationship with our Creator, and the glue of our relationships with all of our fellow creations.  Love is the beginning, the means, and the ends.  Even Jesus said that all the Law and Prophets hang on LOVE.  And so, after diving into a retro-funk version of the old spiritual “Turn Me Around“, we dove into Love…

God’s Children – This is a brand new song about God’s Love for every single person on earth…ALL His children.  The driving drums propelled us into celebrating the truth that there’s “nothing that can separate anyone from the love of God…”

And Can it Be (Amazing Love) – And then, to prepare for communion, Becky lead us through a haunting, Elbow-inspired version of this incredible Hymn.  Singing this old hymn is like feasting on a theological steak…that lifts up into a prayer!

After Darren gently pastored us through the sacrament of communion, we responded with a string of songs and scripture:  And Can it Be (chorus), God’s Children (chorus), I Could Sing of Your Love Forever, reflect on Ephesians 3:14-19, I Could Sing (chorus)…building and building in energy and width…and then landed with a corporate reading of a “prayer-version” of Ephesians 3:14-19:

“For this reason we kneel before You, Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. We pray that out of Your glorious riches You may strengthen us with power through Your Spirit in our inner beings, so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith.

“We pray that You would root and establish us in love, giving us power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that we may be filled to the measure of all Your fullness.”

  2. I am looking for a version of “Turn Me ‘Round” – and I really want one similar to the retro-funk version you all did!! Do you have any recommendations? Did you do a recording that is available? Did you make up the retro-funk version or did you fashion it off of another performance?

    Thanks for praising God!

  3. We actually based our version off Cee-lo Green’s song “Bright Lights Bigger City”. It’s such a fun song! Hope that helps…
