All In This Together (part 2): resources

The last post shared some of the heart behind last weekend, but I’d love to share some of the details also.  Here are the songs and corporate readings for october 2-3rd…

Pre-service:  “We Are Not Us Without You” (download text here)

“We are not a random collection of people doing strange things because this is what our families and friends have always done, even though we’ve all forgotten why.  We are members of the body of Christ, taking our place in the story of Jesus Christ, and the ongoing purposes of the God he called Father, finding ourselves called to learn the art of genuine humanness by worshipping him and working for his kingdom in the world.”  (NT Wright, After You Believe)

Come Thou Fount (part 1)

“The historical church has had a simple formula for every occasion and difficulty:  to gather around the word and the breaking of the bread and, there, let Jesus make His presence felt and effect through them what they could not otherwise accomplish themselves.”  (Fr. Ronald Rolheiser,  The Holy Longing)

Come Thou Fount (part 2)

“The greatest need for our time is for the Church to become what it has seldom been:  the body of Christ with its face to the world, loving others regardless of religion or culture, pouring itself out in a life of service, offering hope to a frightened world, and presenting itself as a real alternative to the existing arrangement.  The Church that is worthy of the name is a band of people in which the love of God has broken the spell of demons and false gods and which is now making a dent in the world.”  (Brennan Manning, Signature of Jesus)

Let it Rise (watch)

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”  (1 Peter 2:9-10)

Marvelous Light (watch)

2 minutes to meet the people around us

Here Are My Hands (listen)

Time of prayer:  walking through the areas of our lives and asking “God, how can I be your hands and feet at work, home, etc….How can I be Your hands and feet with my family, kids, friends, boss, etc…How can I be Your hands and feet in my community?”

One Response to “All In This Together (part 2): resources”

  1. I have just “connected” with your website..I am searching for ways to bring our church back to worship…I mean, I am a new body on the team and have found there is no team really..A group who will scrutinize the list some one has designated for the serve, of worship songs..but the why is gone…the connection between the people in the room and the they question it.
I would like to see us get connected and bring the group together as a team. Pray over needs and thoughts out in the open to share and work out a list of songs that present those concerns to God.
    Your site has helped
    Thank-you for being there!
